On November 16, 2001, Pokémon opened a flagship store in New York City, making it the very first Pokémon Center outside of Japan.
To celebrate this huge step into the West, Nintendo released two exclusive English Black Star promos: Pokémon Center and Lucky Stadium.
These cards gave collectors their first taste of location-specific store promos, with Pokémon Center featuring the brand new storefront and Lucky Stadium showing Pikachu, Pichu, and Charizard flying together over the iconic NYC skyline.
Because these childhood treasures were only given out to fans who visited during that opening event, finding them today in perfect condition has its challenges.
