In 1998, Pokémon launched Tamamushi University, a year-long educational campaign where elementary school students completed Pokémon-themed assignments and exams through monthly magazines.
Those who achieved the highest scores on the final Hyper Professor Exam earned the exclusive Tamamushi University Magikarp promo card. It was never sold in stores, making it one of the few Pokémon cards that truly had to be earned.
This particular PSA 10 copy just sold for nearly $400,000 on @pokecolor.inc, complete with its original student handbook, sealed gold university badge pin, student ID card, and Tamamushi University pencil.
Just five months ago, another PSA 10 sold for $186,000 on Goldin without any of these accessories. The complete package nearly doubled the price.
